Aurélie Pedron settled in Montréal in 1999. She holds a bachelor’s degree in dance from UQAM and completed a research-creation master’s degree in 2013 on “Emergence in Creation or the Anti-heroism of the Creator.”

Early in her career, she produced more than 10 video works, presented in over 14 countries. However, the choreographer prioritizes the stage, focusing her research on the relationship between body and materials. Her solos have been presented at Tangente, Studio 303, the SAT, Ateliers Jean-Brillant, and Blinding Light in Vancouver.

With Chair (2011), Pedron combined stage and video through closed-circuit systems. With Corps caverneux (supported and presented by Tangente and Danse-Cité in 2013), she continued exploring the encounter between body and light. She also collaborated with the theatre company Odelah Création as a performer and videographer.

In April 2013, she founded the creation company Lilith & Cie, dedicated to research, creation, and dissemination of works at the crossroads of choreographic, visual, and cinematic arts. Through it, she explores the permeability of materials and the privileged relationship with audiences enabled by nano-performance. Her work has been shown at the Festival de Théâtre de rue de Lachine and at the FNC. Her most recent creation, Entre, a nano-performance on the theme of encounter, was presented at Tangente during the 2014–2015 season.

Pedron is currently working on a performance-installation for 12 women, titled LA LOBA, in an unconventional venue. At the same time, she enjoys collaborating with marginalized individuals: her projects Rûe and Marge with street-involved youth were supported by the multidisciplinary dissemination center DARE DARE. She has also worked with people living with mental health issues (in collaboration with Danse-Cité and Les Impatients) and is currently developing a performative project (Indeep) with 10 young people struggling with substance use.

JURY NOTES

Aurélie Pedron is a creator who stands out for the depth and strength of the content in her choreographic works. An artist of heart, she has committed herself to working with marginalized youth and has consistently demonstrated strong social engagement. The jury wished to highlight the moving experience she offered audiences with her project Entre, a performance presented in December 2014, and in January, March, and May 2015 by Tangente at the Monument-National. This project offered a distinctive perspective on what live performance can be, revealing a sensitive and unique artist.
