The PRIX DE LA DANSE DE MONTRÉAL awarded their first GRAND PRIX de la danse de Montréal in November 2011. In 2012, a new and fruitful collaboration was established with the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ), which joined the ceremony to present, for the first time, the CALQ prize - MEILLEURE ŒUVRE CHORÉGRAPHIQUE. In 2014, the Regroupement québécois de la danse (RQD) and the Caisse Desjardins de la Culture joined the PRIX DE LA DANSE to award the first Prix INTERPRÈTE.

The 2015 edition of the PRIX DE LA DANSE DE MONTRÉAL welcomed new partners: the Ville de Montréal for the GRAND PRIX de la danse, Agora de la danse and Tangente for the Prix RÉVÉLATION, and the Conseil des arts de Montréal for the Prix ENVOL, the prize for diversity of practice in dance.

In 2016, a new award was created, the Prix GESTIONNAIRE CULTUREL·LE, presented by Diagramme – gestion culturelle. The 2017 edition was marked by the creation of a seventh award, the Prix CONTRIBUTION EXCEPTIONNELLE, presented by the board of directors of the PRIX DE LA DANSE DE MONTRÉAL.

In 2018, a new award was introduced, the Prix DIFFUSION INTERNATIONALE, presented by CINARS and awarded to a Canadian dance company that distinguished itself internationally through the quality of its tours. In 2019, the Prix ETHEL BRUNEAU was created, dedicated to highlighting, year after year, dance artists and practitioners whose contributions have gone unrecognized.
