Lorraine Hébert

Sylvie-Ann Paré

From 2003 to 2016, Lorraine Hébert served as Executive Director of the Regroupement québécois de la danse. Among other achievements, she was the architect of the Grands Chantiers de la danse and of the Plan directeur de la danse professionnelle au Québec 2011-2021, which she co-authored with consultant Pascale Daigle. Although her first artistic family was theatre, she became closely involved with the dance community in the 1990s. At the request of the RQD, she designed the touring model that gave rise to La Danse sur les routes du Québec, and carried out research and writing work for other organizations, including Agora de la danse, Circuit-Est centre chorégraphique, Lucie Grégoire Danse, among others.

In theatre, she co-founded Cahiers de théâtre JEU in 1976, where she was part of the editorial team for 10 years, in addition to contributing to the program texts of the Festival de théâtre des Amériques, moderating conferences, and leading the well-known morning encounters. At the same time, she taught theatre and literature, and began doctoral studies in France, which she completed at the Université de Montréal in 1992. She left teaching in 1987 to join the Centre des auteurs dramatiques, where, for seven years, she was responsible for the dramaturgical support service and acted as representative of Québec artists at the Commission des théâtres francophones. Between her mandates at CEAD and RQD, she spent two years as Francophone Officer at the Theatre Section of the Canada Council for the Arts, then went on to work as a freelancer for numerous cultural organizations.
