Bouge de là - Hélène Langevin

À travers mes yeux - Rolline Laporte

Founded in 2000 by choreographer and artistic director Hélène Langevin, Bouge de là creates, produces, presents, and promotes high-quality contemporary dance works for young audiences. To this day, it remains one of the few professional dance companies in Québec dedicated exclusively to this mission. The organization also carries out numerous cultural mediation activities for youth and families, with the aim of deepening the spectator’s artistic experience and contributing to the outreach of dance.

Bouge de là places the child at the heart of its approach by offering a positive and joyful encounter with dance—an experience that stimulates the senses and sparks the desire to move. The company seeks to give as many children as possible the chance to discover dance, express themselves through movement, and experience the pleasure of dancing together, leaving them with a meaningful and lasting impression.

The company presents contemporary dance performances infused with humor and poetry, integrating various artistic disciplines (video, theatre, shadow play). Its repertoire includes eight works: La tribu Hurluberlu (2000), Comme les 5 doigts de la main (2003), CHUT !! (2005), Vieux Thomas et la petite fée (2008), L’atelier (2010), Ô lit ! (2013), 26 lettres à danser (2016), and À travers mes yeux (2018). To date, more than 1,200 performances have been presented across Canada, as well as recently in China and, soon, Mexico, reaching nearly 300,000 young spectators. In 2017, Bouge de là launched 26 cartes à danser, a unique educational and artistic initiative that has been highly successful in schools and families, first in Québec, then across Canada and into Europe.

JURY NOTES

The members of the CALQ selection committee were enthusiastic about this sophisticated work, which succeeds in showing us the world through the eyes of early childhood. We see what animates, hooks and engages children, which, of course, also speaks to the adult members of this jury. One senses, in every tableau, the expertise at play and how much care went into every detail. This work is well on its way to reaching a wide audience in Quebec and elsewhere, which delights the committee, who believe its impact on creations for young audiences will no doubt be significant.
