Sylvie-Ann Paré

Daina Ashbee is an artist, performer, and choreographer. Of Dutch and Indigenous origin, descended from the Cree and Métis peoples, her work is strongly influenced by her culture and her experiences as a young woman. She combines both contemporary and traditional elements through her dance.

Daina is eager to present her new work Pour in its world premiere at La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines.

She was a finalist for her work Unrelated for the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec Prize – Emerging Work in Montréal (2015) and is pleased to be able to present this piece in Mexico and Europe (Norway and London) in 2016.

JURY NOTES

The members of the CALQ selection committee were struck by this work, which addresses complex subjects such as female sexuality, Indigenous identity, and climate change with intelligence and coherence, in a radical approach that goes well beyond mere provocation.

When the ice melts, will we drink the water?, a choreographic installation created in collaboration with performer Esther Gaudette and composer Jean-François Blouin, was presented by La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines as the closing event of the RAOTIHÓN:TSA festival – Focus on Contemporary Creation by First Nations.
