
Anne Van Aerschot
After studying dance at Mudra, Maurice Béjart’s school in Brussels, and in the Dance Department of New York University’s School of the Arts, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker made her choreographic debut with Fase, Four Movements to the Music of Steve Reich (1982). She founded the company Rosas in 1983, at the same time as creating Rosas danst Rosas. These two pieces quickly earned her international recognition and have since been revived several times, most recently as part of Early Works (2010).Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker first came to Montréal in 1985 with Rosas danst Rosas at the Festival international de nouvelle danse, a city where she would continue to present her works regularly over the years. From 1992 to 2007, De Keersmaeker was choreographer in residence at La Monnaie, the National Opera of Belgium in Brussels. There, she created numerous works that were performed worldwide.In 1995, Rosas and La Monnaie joined forces to establish an international training program, P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios). The four-year program has produced many alumni who have gone on to become renowned dancers and choreographers in Europe and beyond.
