The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) has announced a significant increase to all of its discipline-based awards: each distinction now comes with a $15,000 grant, a 50% increase from the previous amount of $10,000. This directly affects one of the awards presented at the Prix de la danse de Montréal ceremony: the CALQ Meilleure oeuvre chorégraphique in Québec.

A Concrete Gesture for Artists

Behind the $5,000 increase lies a more fitting recognition of artistic work and the concrete realities of choreographic practice. For artists, this boost represents tangible support: time, freedom, the ability to look further ahead. We wholeheartedly welcome this gesture.

The CALQ award Meilleure oeuvre chorégraphique

Presented as part of the Prix de la danse de Montréal ceremony since 2012, this award reflects CALQ's longstanding and unwavering commitment to choreographic creation in Québec. Each year, it honours a work distinguished by its quality, singularity and reach, selected by an independent jury of peers whose attention spans the full breadth of Québec's choreographic output for the season.

The 16th Edition is Coming

The next Prix de la danse de Montréal ceremony will take place in fall 2026. The CALQ Award for Best Choreographic Work will once again be presented, now accompanied by this increased grant of $15,000. Registration for the 2025–2026 season will be announced shortly on the CALQ website.
