Founded in 1989 by choreographer Hélène Blackburn, the Montréal-based dance company Cas Public focuses its choreographic research on renewing approaches to contemporary dance. It serves as a strong anchor point for artists from diverse backgrounds brought together by a shared choreographic exploration. Winner of the Grand Prix of the Conseil des arts de Montréal in 2017, the company has distinguished itself in Québec and across Canada, as well as internationally, through major tours and a strong presence on some of the most prestigious stages in Europe and the Americas.
Renowned for its bold and virtuosic dance as well as the excellence of its creations, Cas Public has, since 2001, integrated productions for young and general audiences into its programming, with the goal of introducing a wider public to dance and contributing to the art form’s development.
JURY NOTES
Cas Public received this inaugural prize for its tour from February 25 to May 5, 2018, which included 34 performances of the work 9 in 18 cities across 3 countries. Created to mark the 35th anniversary of CINARS, this new prize is awarded to a Canadian dance company that has distinguished itself internationally through the quality of a tour. Alain Paré, President and Director of CINARS, presented the prize to Hélène Blackburn, Artistic Director of Cas Public, who was accompanied on this occasion by Mickaël Spinnhirny, artist agent and architect of the tour.
